South West Exeter District Heat Project

District Energy Scheme taking heat generated from the incineration of household and commercial waste at the DCC/Viridor Energy from Waste plant at Marsh Barton to supply residential and business premises in Matford, Marsh Barton and SW Exeter Urban Extension. Currently this heat is used to generate electricity, however five times the energy would be put to use as heat.  It is estimated that 20GWh of heat demand for hot water and heating could be supplied from the EFW plant. The build cost is estimated as £31 million and includes 300m3 thermal store to maximise heat supply form the EfW plant. District heating networks also facilitate greater local energy resilience, the potential to capture and use further sources of waste heat, and provide an easier transition to fossil fuel free technologies.

Key Outputs
