Drivers in Exeter, who use their car in or around the city for two or more days a week, can now register for a chance of receiving a free Lightfoot device – availability is limited to 100 devices, so register your interest now to avoid missing out!

Gamifying energy efficient driving

Lightfoot is a partner in sustainable business with Exeter City Futures that has developed a device which rewards smooth drivers with discounts, benefits and prizes. The small, dash-mounted in-car gadget gamifies the whole driving experience giving you a score to compete against friends, family and colleagues and, if required, gives gentle nudges to boost your score, fuel consumption and lower emissions. This results in savings from cheaper insurance premiums and less wear and tear on vehicles and tyres.

The most unique feature of Lightfoot is that good drivers win prizes like iPads, restaurant vouchers and experience days. It also allows drivers to track their performance, check their scores and compete online or in the accompanying Lightfoot mobile app.

About the giveaway

The giveaway is part of a wider goal to make Exeter a better city for its residents. The recipients of the free devices will be helping the region by enabling City Science, a technical partner of Exeter City Futures, to analyse congestion and traffic movement. This will support the bold target of Exeter City Futures to make Exeter energy independent and congestion free by 2025.

Unlike the standard Lightfoot devices, the free devices have GPS location data turned on, but users’ names and vehicle details are removed. This is to assist City Science, in conjunction with Exeter City Futures, to look at how traffic flow can be improved across Exeter. For more information about how the data from devices will be used check out Lightfoot’s FAQ.
