Exeter Minecraft Meetup: Exeter 2025 Minecraft Challenge – November 2018

Event : 30 November 2018

Minecraft has unlocked the power for anyone to create their own world, but can it be used to help shape the future of our cities? Exeter City Futures is inviting you to get involved in the Exeter 2025 Minecraft Challenge – a project to build a collaborative vision of the future city using the game.

The Challenge

Exeter City Futures has released a Minecraft map of Exeter City Centre generated from Open Data – an interactive and accessible map which can be used by citizens to redesign the city.

Alongside the map we have identified a series of challenge areas for Minecrafters who have an idea for making Exeter better to respond to. The best ideas will be incorporated into a final version of the map that will be released later this year – offering the city a collaborative vision of Exeter in 2025.

The Meetup

At the meetup attendees can collaboratively create a vision of future Exeter, working on a Minecraft map of the City Centre generated from open data. The map is available to download for Pocket and Java Edition, and Java Edition players can also join a 16-person online server.

Attendees will be encouraged to respond to one of our five challenge areas; Car-free City Centre, Sustainable High Street, Alternative Transportation, Alternative Energy Sources, and Super Cycle Paths.

There will also be an opportunity for those who have already been crafting on the map to show off what they’ve made in front of the group.

Tickets are free and under 16s are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult. Attendees must bring their own laptops and mobile devices. Drinks and snacks will be available.
