Connecting Congestion and Kevin Bacon

Event : 02 December 2016

On Friday 2nd December Laurence Oakes-Ash from Exeter City Futures will be talking at The Southernhay Breakfast Club about “The Kevin Bacon Game and Congestion”.

The Breakfast Club is a networking event for local businesses that brings together a range of speakers to help develop commercial and trading links within the Southernhay Business Community. It’s a forum for speakers to tell local businesses how they can help the community – for Exeter City Futures that will be through the benefits of energy independence and zero congestion.

Six Degrees of Congestion

In Laurence’s talk he will look at the popular game Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon and show how the same principles can be used to pinpoint the source of congestion problems. Although the connection may seem abstract it’s all about how patterns can be found in complex networks.

Key insights from Laurence will include how 20% of all travel in the South West is linked to only 60 end destinations – insights that will be key to solving our congestion problems. Learn more about Laurence here.

Join the Breakfast Club

The talk on Friday December 2nd is only open to members of the Breakfast Club, and the cost is £8 per head. Members will be provided with details about how to book and payment must be made before the event.

Any local businesses who want to join the Club can find out more and signup here. It is open to any business in the Southernhay area that want to gain an excellent networking resource.
